HTML5 not likely to ‘kill’ Flash and Silverlight soon
I mentioned HTML5’s potential to kill Adobe’s Flash and Microsoft’s Silverlight, in an earlier post.
Chances of that happening were chopped when Apple, Mozilla, Opera, Microsoft, and Google could not agree on a common set of audio or video codecs for use in the proposed HTML5 spec.
For now, major browsers and media players will continue to implement the codecs and APIs ordained by their owners as they’ve always done, leaving developers and customers to pick a side or go to the additional cost and effort of supporting different players. …Read original article
